FAQ:

What type of watercolor and paper do you use? Will it last?

I use Arches archival, 100% cotton, acid free, cold pressed paper in either 300 or 140 lb. My watercolors are either Holbein or WInsor and Newton artists' quality watercolors. Yes! It will last many, many, many moons after you and I have gone! As long as precautions are taken - such as not leaving your artwork out in the rain, or holding a match to it - it will be around for generations to come.
What type of pen and paper do you use for pen and ink drawings?

My pens are Staedtler brand pigment liners- they are waterproof, lightfast, archival, and acid free. The paper for pen and ink drawings is called Bristol Board (300 series). It is also acid free, heavy weight and has a vellum surface.
How long does it take for you to finish a painting?

I generally give myself a two week window. There are times when I am booked solid, and others where I am not. It is not uncommon for me to work on more than one painting at a time so this affords me the opportunity to work on a schedule. I will do my best to work with you if you have a special deadline. For more information please visit the commission information page.
Can you work from any photograph?

Sure, but remember that the portrait will only be as good as the photograph. Dogs and cats are a funny bunch when the flash of a camera is on! Remember this when you are selecting photographs.
Try to photograph your pet outside on a sunny day (I know, easier said than done!) Really thing about the composition of the photograph - the best thing is having a digital camera and snapping away!
Mornings or afternoons seem to work best - this way the light is a bit diffused and coming in from an angle. But do the best you can.
Try to do something to amuse your pet - a toy or treat may help.
Try to get eye-level with your pet when snapping pictures. Your pet should fill at least half of the viewfinder of your camera.
Simple backgrounds are best - but once again, do the best you can.
Cat owners - good luck :
